I have recieved this also, by using a search engine to research the e-mail it quickly becomes apparent that it is simlpy a scam...
Posted by: S.S. | September 07, 2007 at 07:23 AM
I also recived it and this is a load of crap. I thought that this email was a scam for the simple fact that I got it through my IUP(college) email and it said randomly chosen from emails. IUP didn't send out any notice of this "Competition". I did a little research and extremely quickly found that it was a scam.
Posted by: NP | September 28, 2007 at 11:21 PM
i thought that was true, but after i check the e-mail was full of crap. For everyone who received the email from La Campaigne Award Promotion, please do not believe it! Do not waste your time!!!!!
Posted by: Pudjiati Linasari | December 10, 2007 at 07:07 AM
This is such an obvious scam. Just look how badly it was written. It "tries" to look professional.
Posted by: Marcus Liew | January 22, 2008 at 04:19 AM
I got this email through my community college email. I am perturbed at the fact they got my address. It is obviously a scam. The email has a rediculous sense of urgency, and it is claiming to give away a large sum of money. Last I checked, my email could neither enter a contest by itself nor win a lottery of any kind. I hope nobody has sent information to these people.
Posted by: KC | January 30, 2008 at 11:53 PM
This is definitely a scam, I just received one on my college e-mail account. I wonder if anyone actually falls for these things anymore, with forums like this and well... common sense.

I'm an incoming freshman in college and I'm suprised that i'm already getting junk mail on my college e-mail account. I had to look twice! I couldn't believe it. pLUS big give away...it's from 2007. who holds a raffle contest for over a year. and to marc who gave out your information....now you know! hopefully and most likely nothing more will come out of it as long as you didnt give your personal information.
Posted by: Sheree | July 07, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Wow, it seems like we all have the same problem. I haven't even moved into my university (UC Merced) yet and I already got junk email like this one. I got this exact one and thanks to this site I won't waste my time on it. Thanks everybody!!
Posted by: Alma | July 13, 2008 at 02:46 PM

Hi
Just received a copy of the above letter in my M.S.U. account (I'm a beginning grad. student there.) Thank you for the "heads- up". As this is my second scam letter, I'll be prepared for others. It's going to be a tough year.
Posted by: Scott Fisher | July 18, 2008 at 10:50 AM
HAHA.
I got the same email as soon as my UCR email box was available. The damn idiots don't even know how to speak English:)
Posted by: Tim | July 28, 2008 at 06:04 PM
I too heard from Mark at "La Campaigne . . .". I've been actually disappointed as I learned more about all this. However, have been learning a lot from others' postings, and from websites out there informing about/fighting scams -- Query "419 Scam" -- it's full of very useful info including what's on an FBI website, as is "scamomatic.com".
For laughs, take a look at "Funny Nigerian Email" . . . "RE: AWARD NOTIFICATION FINAL NOTICE" at geekswithblogs.net/evjen/archive/2005/09/07/53038.aspx.

hey i just got one too and i was sceptical as well as i called the number and only got a deep buzzing that went on and off. i think these guys are only targeting college students cause they know we are strapped for cash (well most). when i emailed saying i wouldnt give any info till i talked to someone i never got a reply. anyone who got this should notify their college so they can make an announcement to the students.
Posted by: liz | September 16, 2008 at 10:19 AM
this came through my school e-mail address. Great security system, eh??
Posted by: Stephanie | September 29, 2008 at 12:47 AM
I got this email through my college's email system, too. It seemed pretty sketchy at first, and when I typed it into google, this site popped up. Scam-a-rific.
Seems they're targeting us poor college students. 500 thousand dollars would of been nice, though.
I thought the comment about donating to charity was cute, though.
